Oh hey, I'm Katy!
I am a Texas gal, born and raised. I'm a Capricorn (earth child), enneagram 6, ENFP, and I have the cutest puppy named Louie! I made my way to Montana from Texas in 2015. I can honestly say I have fallen in love with the mountains and people of the North. I work a full-time job and in my free time, I create!
When I was 18, my mom had a Canon Rebel sitting in her closet. I got bored and curious one day and I asked my mom to use it. We lived in a rual area and my idea of entertainment was dressing my little sister up (like a doll), doing her hair and makeup, and taking photos of her out in the fields.
I proudly posted my photos to Facebook and people from my small Texas town wanted photos of their families, seniors, etc. This is when I started taking photography more seriously.
Over the years and through my experiences, I found the one thing I loved photographing the most was ..."love." I found a passion for capturing the one thing that is intangible...connection and emotion.
HOW I GOT STARTED
My approach to photography comes from a place of connection. No posing, no fake smiles. I want to see YOU! I want your photos to be a genuine example of your relationship: the quirks, the fun, laughter, the deep feeling of love for each other, etc.
It's ok to be goofy and weird...you will notice very quickly that I am goofy and weird too! I will give you prompts to loosen you up and spark you to connect. From there, I will hang back and let you two be YOU.
I believe that feeling comfortable is super important for looking (and feeling) relaxed and getting used to having a camera in your faces.
Meeting up, video, or phone-chatting during the booking process can really help with this. It can help before a shoot with the jitters + it gives us a chance to discuss your vision.
I'd love to be your friend, not just someone you have hired. It will make the whole process easier and less stressful. During the shoot, I might play music, we'll laugh together, and we will make some magic!
Now, that all applies to couple sessions and newlywed portraits, but what about the rest of the wedding? I like to shoot weddings documentary style. That means - apart from family, wedding party, and newlywed portraits - I just blend in and let the day unfold in front of my camera. I'll be around to help with whatever you need, but I won't bother you to pose a certain way. I just capture what is naturally happening.
